Traditional dimming uses analogue signals like 0-10V that vary voltage to control brightness. DALI uses digital commands on an addressable two-way bus that can individually target luminaires, confirm command execution, and return status data, enabling fault detection and energy monitoring that analogue dimming cannot provide.

The JL-251C provides basic continuous DALI dimming. The JL-252C adds an intelligent midnight dimming programme that calculates staged brightness reductions based on the preceding eight nights of illumination data. The JL-253C further adds lumen compensation to maintain consistent output levels as LED depreciation accumulates over the photocell's service life.

Through the orange and brown signal conductors in the JL-240XA-14 compatible socket, which carry the DALI bus signal from the photocell controller to the LED driver. Standard 3-pin NEMA sockets do not carry these signal lines and cannot support DALI dimming.

It provides the dedicated signal conductor pins that carry DALI bus communication alongside the standard power, neutral, and ground connections. Without these additional signal pins, the DALI command from the photocell controller cannot reach the LED driver.

It tracks the illumination duration across the preceding eight nights and calculates a moving weighted average to determine the appropriate dimming ratio for the midnight to pre-dawn period. Staged reductions apply programmed ratios such as 30%-20% or 40%-10% depending on the configured programme, enabling energy saving during low-occupancy overnight hours without fixed-schedule programming.
